Fellow Travelers (Max, Jack, Sarah, Skye and the dogs!)

Sarah followed Max's vehicle onto the road, and she made sure she was both far enough away to avoid hitting him if he had to stop suddenly, and close enough to offer assistance in case of trouble. Her face was grim; she knew that, from now on, every day might be a battle, every stranger had to be treated as a possible danger, every resource husbanded for the future. The old world had been swept away; the new world would be a much colder place.

One hand on the wheel, she moved the rifle next to her a little closer - just in case.
